Draft Cross goes from SCARY to SWEET… Positive Reinforcement/Clicker Training Horses Wins Again

Every year we award a prize to the person who has been in our +R community/working with me, Melissa Deal, reinforcing their horses, themselves, and the greater equestrian community. This year one of our longest standing participants is receiving the award as she hits her 6-year anniversary of working with me in +R Horse Training and being an ambassador for +R. I am soooooo excited to announce, the prize of Lifetime Compassionate Horse Click (CHC) Online Community Membership goes to… Sharon Worona, a CHC Level 1 Mastery Graduate. 

How’d she take her beloved horse Hershey from Scary to Sweet with online +R coaching, course and community? Sharon did the smartest thing anyone can do in a similar situation, she got kind, compassionate, effective training for herself and her horse! The stress she felt was coming through loud and clear in her very first correspondence with me. Hershey was snaking his head, threatening to bite and kick, moving into her space in unsafe ways and Sharon was at her wits end. Now she and Hersey help and teach others positive reinforcement and clicker training methods and concepts in a variety of settings from the trail to church and beyond. Sharon’s commitment to

• her own learning and
• her consistent approach taking small steps
• making training plans
• taking notes in her private coaching sessions and our community coaching calls and
• diligently doing her course work
• all the while rewarding what she wanted to see more of from her horses without punishment, coercion or making them wrong

 Sharon turned her relationship with Hershey and his behavior around!

By creating a happy horse that can be calm and responsive even in emergencies, Sharon and Hershey are now models for what is possible when we’re willing to learn to listen to our horses and understand their feedback, plus how to reinforce them (say yes!) in a way that they actually enjoy!

ANNUAL +R GIVEAWAY/Compassionate Horse Click Ambassador Award - A TRADITION

On top of feeling like a girl again with her horses and having a positive outlook on life and skills to help others… 

Sharon will receive a lovely silver CHC Ambassador frame as a heartfelt memento from the group whose mission she shares. (Helping women enjoy horses like never before!)

But these prizes are small things compared to all the BENEFITS that she and Hershey are experiencing, accomplishing, and sharing in the world – from providing a positive, calm and stable (no pun intended) presence when trail riding with her friends to being able to mentor them through various challenges with their horses and helping them find peaceful and loving solutions while building trust in confidence in their relationships too.  (Assisting with a helicopter rescue in the woods is just one unusual circumstance in which Sharon and her horses came through safely and with 5-star performances thanks to +R.) 

What do you and Sharon have in common? 

You might be surprised to learn that Sharon is a lot like the rest of us…she hails from Arkansas and is an everyday horse lover with horses in her backyard, wife and mom of two. She has a small business creating different types of plaques and word art that supports her horsey habits after having left a high-pressure job of her youth in corporate America.

How Sharon and I Met 

Sharon first started working with me doing +R with her horses in early 2017. It’s crazy to think it’s 6 years have flown by! Sharon was one of my very first online case studies. These case studies were required as part of my Connection Training Coaching Certification, and I can remember thinking, “this online thing will never work,” and I said so every chance I got, lol. Who knew online was going to become one of the main ways I share the message through online coaching, community programs and courses???

Sharon has two horses, Hershey and Rio, and a donkey (Henry) that she acquired/rescued after training him as part of her CHC Mastery Course studies. Sharon has done a phenomenal job with all these equines and the others in her Mastery Course as well. She turned Henry’s life around - saving him from being dangerous and miserable for humans to handle- not to mention how poorly he felt around humans prior to Clicker Training CHC style! I am happy to report he’s a solid well-adjusted citizen these days thanks to Sharon’s +R skills. 

If you've been on our FB pages (here’s a free one: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1742650405954835 where you can find info and post for feedback) much you've certainly seen Hershey's signature recordings and videos. He's a large brown and white horse with a personality just as big as his body. He absolutely adores Sharon and positive reinforcement as do Henry and her other horse Rio.

Hershey and Sharon have become well-loved ambassadors in the positive reinforcement, clicker training and Compassionate Horse Click movement. Just by living their example of what positive reinforcement can do in a horse and a human's life, so many people have become interested in + R for their horses. Everyone who meets Sharon and Hershey can’t help but feel their connection and the joyful vibe that goes along with it.

Her husband Greg, a non-horse person, even got on board and has helped Sharon incorporate +R into every facet of her life. Greg helps with the training and videos too. He deserves the Horse Husband of the Year award!  (Thanks for your support of Sharon and CHC, Greg!)

We couldn't be more proud or more grateful to have Sharon and her sweet equines in our midst. She's been an inspiration and a shining example of what can be done whenever we consistently take the time and effort to learn how to create skills and circumstances in which we and our horses can both be positively reinforced and thrive because of it. Sharon has also used her +R skills to tirelessly volunteer,  (equestrians, mission work and more) mentoring many people who would have never been exposed to positive reinforcement otherwise. She’s spread the +R experience to those who aren’t involved in horses, to equestrian newbies and even her previous conventional instructors.

As you’re likely aware, owning a horse can be an emotional rollercoaster at times. However, like so many others in the Compassionate Horse Click Course, Coaching programs and Community, Sharon is proof that it doesn’t have to be that way. Owning a horse can be a joyful experience through and through when you know what and how to BE and do +R in a way everyone, horses and humans can value. Sharon continues to remind us all of the positive transformation and far reaching effects that positive reinforcement training CHC Style can have on our lives (at the barn and beyond) when we commit to the process of learning to connect with ourselves, our horses and others in a kind, compassionate and rewarding, yet highly effective manner.
